The citrus belt in the state of São Paulo is the largest citrus producing region in the world and counts on total area of 12.5 millions hectares, with 700 thousand hectares the area effectively covered by orange trees. This area is distributed across more than 10 thousand producers.

Brazil occupies the first place in worldwide citrus production, followed by China, that although answers for only 3% of the worldwide production of oranges, took the second position from the USA, that is now in third place.

The juice processing industry uses around 90% of the whole orange production. And approximately 80% of the orange juice consumed in the world comes from Brazilian orchards.
